Herringham pupil wins GLC Young Person of the Year...

The Gateway Academy played host to a glittering awards ceremony recently; rewarding pupils and staff within the GLC for their efforts and achievements.

The event saw personal video nominations not only from staff to pupils, but from pupils to their favourite member of staff, along with the reason why they thought they were so special. Suffice to say, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house from the staff that were nominated!

Pupils from each academy were also delighted to perform to the audience and showcase their skills; Gateway Academy a literary recital, Gateway Primary Free School performed a dance, Herringham the Samba drums, Lansdowne a poem and Tilbury Pioneer a couple of songs from the choir.

Herringham pupil, Hannah, won the much coveted title of GLC Young Person of the Year. Mrs Otto gave a full citation as to why she deserved to win. She said, "Hannah is the Head Girl at Herringham Primary Academy. From the day she started school she has been striving to achieve her best and surpass expectations. She has real grit and determination and will never let obstacles stand in her way. I have once heard someone suggest that she might find something difficult to do and could not have been happier when she confidently put them in their place and got straight on with proving them wrong. She has amazing ambitions and we have no doubt that she will achieve them. She is mature beyond her years but fun loving and friendly. Her unassuming nature means that she is well respected and well-liked by everyone. She has character and qualities that will secure her future success and I have total confidence that the future is extremely bright for Hannah!"

Mr Kevin Sadler, CEO of the GLC, said “The evening was a celebration of all of the wonderful things that our young people have achieved in the course of the academic year. There is always so much to celebrate. In essence, we celebrated the tip of the iceberg of excellence that exists in every GLC Academy!”
