Year 5 pupils enjoy the Silk River...

Year 5 pupils from Herringham Primary Academy recently took part in an event, Silk River, with the Royal Opera House and Kinetika.

The pupils had been working with Kinetika over the last academic year on a project to design a silk flag that represented life in the local area, linked to the River Thames. They had already met dignitaries from Kidderpore, India who had created a similar scroll linked to local life and the Ganges, and explored their lives further. They used this experience to create their own designs.

The final part of the project involved a walk through the streets of Tilbury, all the way to the Tilbury Cruise Terminal, displaying their final creation. They enjoyed singing songs linked to the local area, as well as reciting poems linked to the Thames and Tilbury’s close links to the arrival of the ‘SS Windrush’ in June 1948.
